Though, its new competitors Ledger Nano and BC Vault are giving it tough competition but still it's maintaining its position because of security it offers and crypto investors trust.

Out of all hardware wallets, Ledger Nano S Plus is gathering more acclaim (because of its vast list of supported coins and price tag) but that does not mean Trezor is less popular (when it comes to storage capacity Trezor beats Nano S). Trezor has a good track record due to which many cryptocurrency investors trust this device to store their cryptographic assets.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if you lose Trezor hardware wallet?

In case, you lose your Trezor hardware wallet then you can easily restore your wallets to a new Trezor device using your recovery seed. If you cannot afford a new Trezor wallet then you can use following software wallets to restore your cryptocurrency wallets:

  • ArcBit (IOS)
  • Copay
  • Electrum
  • Mycelium

After installing above mentioned wallets to your machine, you can use your Trezor 24 words recovery seed, that you've generated during the Trezor setup process, to recover your coins.

How many Trezor wallet models are there?

As of now, Trezor has three models: Trezor One, Trezor Safe 3 and Trezor Model T. Model One and Safe 3 are cost effective solutions and as secure as its successor Model T. Trezor Model T is a next generation cryptocurrency hardware wallet with some premium features such as Touchscreen, premium body and stylish look.

How many coins can I store simultaneously?

As of now, both models (One and Model T) support more than 8000+ coins and tokens. And team behind it continuously works to increase Trezor supported coins list.

Although, Trezor coin support list is very vast, but it does not mean you can store all supported coins in a single device. Hardware wallets come with memory limitation which lets you install a limited number of wallets at time.

In terms of balance, there are no limits. For example in Bitcoin wallet, you can hold as many an BTC coins you would like to. In short, there is maximum 21 million bitcoins supply available and you can store all of them in you wallet.

It's not clear how many coins at the same time you can store in these devices. But I know some people who say that they've stored more than 25 coins in their wallet. I've contacted Trezor support team for clarification. I'll let you know as soon as I get a reply.

For your information, Trezor One does not support XRP, therefore, if you want to cold store XRP AKA Ripple then go for Safe 3 or Model T hardware wallet. Team behind the wallet is working on it so hopefully it (model One) will also support XRP soon.

Company has not made any official announcement yet that whether Trezor One will support XRP in the future or not. And it seems it is not going to add support for XRP because their latest hardware wallet Trezor Safe 3, available at same cost, supports Ripple coin.

Before buying, it's always a wise decision to check which cryptocurrencies does a hardware wallet support. If your hardware wallet supports multi-coins then you can easily store your other coins (if any) to your existing wallet.

If you don't own other coins then must read this list of top evolving Bitcoin alternative cryptocurrencies; if you're willing to invest in other coins.

Is Trezor a cold wallet?

Yes, it cold stores your cryptocurrencies. It keeps your private keys in an isolated space. Only you have access to those private keys. Company does not store your private keys to its server or records, actually the manufacturer doesn't even know what are your seed words.

You can even use your hardware wallet on an infected computer and your private keys will remain be intact.

Does Trezor support ERC20 tokens?

Trezor supported coins list includes ERC20 tokens. As of now there are more than 65K ERC20 tokens in existence and wallet's latest firmware version supports ERC20 tokens. The company has not currently integrated ERC20 tokens in its wallets but users can use third party wallets or services such as MyEtherWallet to store ERC20 tokens.

How will I access my wallets?

You will need to install official Trezor Suite app to your computer. This application facilitates communication between your wallet and computer. After setting up the app, you'll be able to install prominent coins directly by visiting trezor.io/start page.

It's noticeable that you cannot access all your coins directly from Bridge app. For some coins and tokes such as ERC20 tokens, you will need to use third party wallets.

Final Words

If you've invested a significant portion of your earnings in cryptocurrencies then I strongly recommend you to use a hardware wallet to keep your coins safe.

Don't use online wallet or exchange to store your valuable coins because an exchange can get exploited anytime or in the worst case scenario, your exchange may run away with your coins.

Have you heard this story, "How investors of a prominent exchange lost their $150 million worth of crypto assets just because they prefer hot wallet to store their coins?"

If you're going to hold your coins for long time then hardware wallet is a safe bet.

If you're still skeptical then think of your coins and their future value, you'll get an answer.
