In this post, we will learn how to generate Ledger wallet Ethereum address and transfer Ethereum from exchange to Ledger Nano S, X, or Blue. If you want to store Ethereum offline then there is not better option than a hardware wallet.
Ledger Nano or HW.1 only supports Bitcoin but if you own Ledger Nano S, X or Blue then you can store multiple cryptocurrencies on your device. You can install up to 22 apps at the same time on your Ledger Nano S, more than 18 apps on Ledger Blue (number may vary) and company’s latest product Ledger Nano X can store up to 100 apps at a time.
You can install Ledger Live desktop or mobile application or use MyEtherWallet wallet to store Ethereum on Ledger Nano S, X or Blue. Hardware wallet is a so far best and safest way to store Ethereum offline.
Therefore, if you have a cryptocurrency hardware wallet such as Ledger Nano S then move follow the steps give below to move your coins to this device.
It is a very easy process. If you’ve moved your Bitcoin, Ripple or Litecoin to your hardware wallet then you can readily move Ethereum to Ledger Nano S, X or Blue too. In this tutorial, I’ll be showing you how to transfer Ethereum to Ledger Nano S, X or Blue.
You can transfer Ethereum from an exchange to Ledger wallet by using either brand new Ledger Live app or MyEtherWallet. If you’ve stored your ETH on a software wallet then you can move them to your Ledger wallet too.
Let’s see how to generate Ledger wallet Ethereum address and move Ethereum to Ledger Nano S, X or Blue.
Steps to transfer Ethereum to Ledger Nano S, X or Blue
Follow the steps given below to transfer Ethereum from exchange to Ledger Nano hardware wallet. We’ll complete this transfer process in four simple steps, which are:
- Install Ledger Live app
- Install Ethereum app and generate Ledger wallet Ethereum address
- Copy Ledger Nano Ethereum address
- Access your ETH online wallet exchange, where you’re storing your ETH and send Ethereum to your Ledger hardware wallet.
Note: Steps are same for Ledger Nano S, X, and Blue.
Go to Ledger wallet applications page and download and install Ledger Live app.
Once you install Ledger Live app onto your computer, open the app, connect your Ledger Nano device to it, complete initial setup and then from the sidebar, click on Manager.
Now hit Install button next to Ethereum app icon and install the app. Note: You’ll also need to authorize installation from your Ledger hardware wallet.
Next to send Ethereum to Ledger Nano, from your Ledger Live app’s sidebar, click on Receive and then a pop-up window will open on your screen. Select Ethereum and then click on Continue.
Next, grab your Ledger hardware wallet and navigate to Ledger Wallet Ethereum app and press both buttons together to open the app.
Once your Ledger app makes a successful connection between your computer and hardware wallet, click on Continue.
Again press Continue button and then match ETH address showing on your computer screen with the address showing on your Ledger wallet display. If both addresses match then confirm it from your Ledger device by pressing OK button.
Click on Copy to copy your Ethereum address or you can scan bar code.
Minimize your wallet app.
Next visit exchange where you’re storing your Ethereum. Log in to your exchange or software wallet; where you’ve stored your Ether.
Note: In the next steps, I’m going to use my Local cryptocurrency (Koinex) exchange’s screenshots. Don’t worry, if your exchange is different then steps will be the same. Just you will need to access send ETH wallet section.
Go to your coins section and access Withdraw or Send section. Note: If you’re on Coinbase then you can click on Accounts tab to access Send Ethereum section.
To send Ethereum to Ledger Nano wallet, first enter the amount of ETH, you want to transfer.
Note: First send a small amount to verify. Once you receive your sent ETH then move all of your Ethereum to Ledger Nano S or Blue.
After entering the amount, paste Ledger wallet Ethereum address that we’ve copied from our Ledger device. If there’s any remarks optional field then you can enter anything in that field like I’ve entered, “To my Ledger Nano S”.
After entering all the details, hit Next or Submit button to send Ethereum to Ledger Nano S.
In the next step, you’ll be asked to enter two-factor authentication password, if enabled.
That’s it. You’ve successfully sent Ethereum to Ledger Nano S, X or Blue.
Now maximize your Ledger Live app and check whether you’ve received ETH or not. You can click on refresh button showing on the top right corner to refresh the app.
Usually, it takes few minutes to 24 hours. If coins don’t reflect in your account then disconnect your Ledger device and check your Ether balance after some time.
Don’t worry to receive the coins, you don’t need to be online.
